Land of the Long White Cloud - House Tour - NZ

Welcome to the South of the South Island of New Zealand. The City of Dunedin awaits with it's glorious homes, parks and public buildings.

I would imagine today we are receiving some readers from the US - thanks to the Hooked on Houses fall house tour facilitated by Julia - thanks matey ! And thank you for stopping by on what will probably be a long and enjoyable day of house hooking, opps looking.

So what does an Aussie girl living in sunny Queensland know about New Zealand ... well quite a lot really. I have my own permanent NZ memento in darling MIC (man in change - hee hee).

He is from Dunedin. To be fair I found him in Brisbane, but we have gone back and lived in Dunedin for two years in the late 90s. And of course we fly across the ditch every so often to visit his lovely family.

And more to the point what do I know about this house. Well for nigh on two years I walked past it everyday on my way to work. To be found on the edge of the CBD, half way down High Street, at pretty much the 'catch your breath after the really steep bit' mark.

So I often found myself peeping over the garden wall, wondering who was doing what in such a lovely home. So image my thrill, when searching for a subject for this house party, I find it online with a big FOR SALE sign and a relatively small price tag. More on that later.

This of course is the front of the home. A much admired home said the ad blub. Oh really, who would have thought.

Come on in and have a peek around - they won't mind. This is the paneled entry foyer.

See the wee power room off the entry - how sweet - and practical - it can be rather windy and chilly in Dunedin. So realistically one might have to pee as soon as one comes into a warm space.

And we have two lounges to choose from - how proper. But which to choose - I might just have to make a roster ... or maybe a 'his' and 'hers' space, or yet a 'them, being kids' and 'us' space. Try and see the view of the harbour out of the window above.

MIC and I adore lead light that just uses patterned clear glass - like found in the foyer pic above.

But for this window I would also accept coloured glass. Upstairs we go.

And yes upstairs is the main bedroom along with a few others - five in total.
And more beautiful windows.

And back downstairs - what I consider to be a useful kitchen.
I appreciate useful kitchens over dead glam ones any day.

I have not mentioned it as yet ... but here's the view. Dunedin is situated on a beautiful headland and harbour. Nice.

And a study I could blog in for hours ....

Oh yes the main bathroom, with claw foot bath and pedestal basin. Shame bout the boring ole mirror ...

Well here we are back down stairs and ready to leave. Remember to take your scarf. Head down hill and you will be in the city centre in about five minutes.

The ad gave the following details ...

Magnificent grand character residence, full of splendour and charm. The extra detail to it's faithful restoration is highlighted with the beautiful marble fireplaces, leadlight windows, classic flooring, grand entrance way and elegant stairway. A much admired home built to withstand the test of time offering four or five bedrooms, ensuite, study area, formal living, an additional living space, separate dining and plenty of storage.

Truly dazzling, our owners are moving abroad so here is your opportunity to seize a piece of Dunedin's history and one of Dunedin's finest city homes. Sink into sumptuous living today.

Now back to me ... and how much to sink into sumptuous living - guess and tell me your guess in the comments. Remember NZ dollars. I'll put the answer in the comments too. But commit now - no cheating.

Go here to see more pics - and to make an offer - and if you do buy the home may I please come for a sleep over :)

Now head back to Julia and hook on. Thanks for stopping by - I'll be round round your way soon - cheers le

What a GREAT tour! Loved it.

Beautiful windows. And I'm really intrigued by how they have those hooks around the bottom of the round window. What a cool idea. I have a round window just like it in my half-bath but never would've thought to do something like that.

What a view. Wow.

I have no idea what that would be in NZ dollars, but I'm guessing it has to be over a million, easy. I'll guess...$3 million? Am I anywhere close? Can't wait to find out.

I'll be posting Mister Linky tomorrow night so you can join up for Friday's party. Thanks for playing along!! :-)

Thanks Julia .... now sit down ... This house is just under a $1 million NZ dollars ... so what is that in US $ - I'll go find out and come back and tell us - cheers le

Oh.My.Goodness. I'm househunting at the moment...and after this little tour, Dunedin is looking pretty darn good. I cannot believe that price!!

Hello Fairlie - seems I was at your place when you were at mine - I find you thru M and Fe ... small world.

BTW one of my fav places in NZ is Farlie - in the South Island - Mackenzie Country - just a divine wee rural town.

Cheers le

Just been make to double check - it is listed for NZ $990 000 - so you would buy for less than that ... maybe we could all chip in a few thousand and have a roster system ... le

charming place, although too grown up looking for me...that would cost at least a million in Dallas.. or more
love your new music!

Wow, Le that place is amazing! Can't imagine what a place like that would go for <><

What a lovely home. I love the windows and the views...and the main bedroom!!!

I live in the US, just outside of Boston and it would probably be 1.5million or more here, depending on location.
What a gorgeous home, everything is pristine and looks brand-new, too! That kitchen is definitely useable, especially with 3 ovens, but it would kill the sale in this area because it would be considered too outdated. At least for the people who'd buy this type of fancy home. I'd take it!

those windows are OMG-beautiful! the price tag is not bad either, though still too rich for my blood.

lovely tour - thanks!

Oh! Swoon-worthy for sure! And, man...that is not expensive...really. Well, compared to a chocolate bar-yes...but you know what I mean, eh?

LOVELY tour...Thanks for that!

I can't believe that crazy price! At least it's crazy for U.S. dollars and homes. I love the round window.

I loved the home. And I loved Dunedin when I visited - but that was NOT in the winter. ;)

I love pretty things, and those windows were beautiful and the view spectacular.

Gorgeous home. Thanks for sharing on Julia's tour.

The house is GORGEOUS. Don't know how it would look with my crappy furniture in it, though! Actually the kitchen seems a little small for the size of the house... so we should all feel okay about not buying it. :)

I have been blog hoppin and found you. What a great house!! I guess $1 million US, not sure what that converts to.
Hope to see you soon on my side of the world.

Lisa @ Take90West said...

That is an amazing house...I'll take it!

In Chicago, with city and lake views for a house that big, the price would easily be 4 million dollars US.

Wow! Great house.

What a lovely home. I think the view from that office is my favorite!

That is a gorgeous home. I loved both of the lounges and the windows and the view. I am disappointed in the kitchen because I love to cook. I bet there would be some way to use some other space to expand the kitchen.

Thanks all for stopping by - I am still wandering thru the list :)

For the record I thin NZ has the best natural light of all the many countres I have been to - especially the south island - imagine it is a mix of high altitude, less pollution, sea breezes and the luck of the craw :) thanks for making my weekend so much fun :) le
